Fiddling with the RAM I was slowly able to get the ATA card working in the
7300! I noticed that using 80MB of RAM or less and mixing various sizes of
RAM did the trick. I kept getting problems when installing 9.1 on the 40GB
attached to it. Since the 4GB SCSI had 9.1 on it already I decided install
Jag on the 40GB. BTW I replaced the 604e processor with the XLR8 carrier
ZIF and G3/300 -- it runs great on it. I also put the 604e processor into
the 9500.

Just bite the bullet and buy new RAM. $25 gets you a new 128 MB stick and you can toss all the old stuff. That you're having to fiddle with it to get it working means that you're still having problems.

All sorts of weird, system affecting timing errors and such can be produced by sub-par, mixed 4K and 2K and plain bad ram.
