Yep. Apple PS's usually go out with a zap and smoke. Sometimes even with a
bang, a bright spark and smoke. (Had a chip actually blow up once on an 840
AV PS. Visual inspection showed  half of one chip was missing from the
voltage regulator board. There was a nice black mark and a dent in the board
where there should have been chip.)

Be advised that I've seen PS's take the motherboard with them when they
went, so if it is the PS, also check out the MoBo closely to make sure no
spikes bit it.
