More than slightly off-topic for which I apologize, but in surfing
eBay for an upgrade from my present 7300, I'm seeing a number of
brand new PowerBook G4s and iBook G3s (700MHZ to 1 GHZ, 40 to 60gb
HDs) for sale in the $1000 range, well below retail. Example:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2745613580&category=14909
.

These are middle-level and top-of-the-line machines. It seems too
good to be true (and maybe it is?). Is Apple surplusing off its stock
to make way for the new G5s?

Fred

I went to that link and it's invalid now.

When looking at ebay auctions, remember the price you see is the current
bid. If somebody wants it, they'll bid hot and heavy in the last couple of
hours. Like a B&W that I bid on once when the bid was $50, I bid $180 and
thought I might get it; in the last hour of bidding, a couple of other
people came along, and it went for about $230. So when the bid was $50, it
looked like a steal of a deal, but of course, that's not what it sold for.

To get a better idea of what things are worth, go to the completed items,
and see what things actually sold for.
