I know you want to experiment. For Mac OSs before 10, IE and Icab are the
best in my opinion.

If IE works for you, why not stay with it? It is without doubt one of the
best. It has to be because that is what web site makers use for their
standard, a sort of catch 22 that has a history. I'd say to be sure to have
the latest 5. for the Mac (I have 5.1.6 - I think there is a 5.1.7).

I too love Icab, looks nice and has some great features like being able to
open up a source file on one's own computer. What is not properly developed
is its ability to handle css (style instructions that are specified by the
web site maker for the pages).

But, what can't you do in icab, give some examples of addresses etc. It may
be that you need to attend to the business of setting your preferences, all
sorts of things things file helpers. Pay attention particularly to the
preferences/Javascript/'Identity/settings'/identity. I tick the MIE and put
in a 5 version - this identifies the browser as IE to web sites and helps -
think: the doorman lets in people with proper dress and gives scruffy others
a hard time. I know ... Mac people like us have pride but one sometimes
needs to swallow it ... Also give Icab as much memory as you can afford,
set prefs to throw out the cache on quit ... It goes on and on.
