GeoPort Telecom Adapter - Will it work?

I was recently given one of the older Apple GeoPort Telecom Adapter II 
's, along with a Best Data "Smart One 56Mac" modem. As I have cable 
internet access (and have for years) I have rarely used modems since 
1998, and never on a Mac. I was looking through the GTA II's CD-ROM, and 
thought that what it could do was pretty neat: voice mail, fax, all 
kinds of neat stuff. However...  I only have OS 9.1 and OS X 10.1.5 on 
this 7300/200...

I know it won't work under OS X... I won't even bother to ask! However, 
I was curious if it was possible to use the GTA II under OS 9.1? With a 
few software modifications, of course...

I did an extensive Web search, but found little to nothing, especially 
under an OS past 8.1. Any one have ANY ideas on if this will work, what 
features will work, how to do it, etc?

Also, what features does this Best Data modem have? Can I replace the 
GTA II with the Best Data and get the same or similar functionality?

I should state that these modems will NOT be used for Internet access, 
except in the extreme rare and remote instance that my cable access goes 
down for longer than two days or more. Therefore, I don't care about 
this function or up/download speeds much.
