I have a few choice words for the Best Data 56k - it is JUNK.

That is utterly ridiculous! Your modem speed also depends greatly on where you are in the chain of 'switches' between you and your phone company. People in the city tend to get as high as 48 while those in the country sometimes barely pull 21..

Furthermore, they do NOT even test these modems under actual operating conditions. The head so and so told me that we do NOT have a modem line loop ( for those that do not understand - this is a phone company provided line loop that provides actual operating conditions and allows actual connection to an IP over this line. It is set up to go say 20 miles and loop back to the factory so we can see exactly how it works under actual line conditions. ) they use a line in the building with a fake dial tone and test it to see if it will dial a number and if it does, they sell it to us!!!!

So, now you see why I have ZERO respect for Best Data and refer to it
as WORST DATA.

I have had many of those and they work just fine and still do.
The Geoport however, is completely obsolete, proprietary Apple technology, and should be discarded as it can't be used for anything. There is no software compatible for it on any system you would be using.
