If you have bad memory, then yes it's possible. The file is read in and corrupted by bad memory then the bad version is compressed and sent. BTW, bad memory will also cause lots of other problems. Time to run the RAM test in Newer's Guage Pro
Done that, let it go for over 1000 runs. It gave no report (good OR bad)... this may be a malfunction in itself. Other testers haven't confirmed problems with these VU 128mb sticks.
The 7500 I had before this had similar problems. It was unusable and I got rid of it. I had most of the software I'm running now on that machine. It was transferred originally from my 6116 G3, which didn't give any trouble. The 7500's RAM was not the same sticks I'm using now.
Guess I could pop the 9600's original RAM back in to see if the problems go away, but the system is corrupt, so I'd have to reinstall again... with all the hassles that go with this process (eg loss of Eudora mailboxes and address book).
If you are not getting errors reports, then there are no problems that have been found. Most of the time when I have had bad RAM I can only get 1 or 2 passes before the error pops up. Without having access to the machine, this is a tough one to debug. I'd try selecting the extension set 'Mac OS base' and running with that to see if you are having software problems. Also, try running Disk First Aid and make sure your disks are ok.
