The problem now is that if while connected happily to
the internet, should the machine be restarted, surfing
will become impossible. That is unless I undergo a
lengthy start up sequence with my cable modem, router,
and system. That order is: everything off - cable
modem on first and waite until all three lights are
locked on - Linksys router on second and its lights
are stable - finally the 7600 Sonnet G4 is booted and
you will again be able to surf. Any other order and
there is always long delays, time outs, and some
excuse about "not resolving a screen name," or "check
for correct address http can't connect". No amount of
tinkering short of the entire startup procedure has
proven successful in reconnecting to the internet.

Does the machine reboot OK, but just cannot reconnect to the net?

If my problem-riddled 9600 G3 crashes while browsing, it cannot reconnect... unless I reset the GV modem. To do this I merely switch the modem off & back on again. Then it's ready to connect (& crash) again.
