Well, tastes very. I think it's the most attractive interface yet designed. But, the primary reason I use it is that it's the best OS currently on the market--many, many times better than OS 9. For that, I still use it if it looked like Windows XP.
You are correct. Tastes vary, and I would have to say that X, for all it's eye candy and command line structure, has a MAJOR negative air pressure. Especially when you have to use a hack to get it to work on our computers, and then you loose the compatibility of a lot of software and hardware. OS 9.1 and below ..... :-)
They might have something with Panther if they can get all of it to work right...
