The new owner is actually Fetch's original creator/programmer, who developed it while a student at MIT, and it was originally offered by MIT as described.
Two years ago he won $0.5 million on the 'Millionaire' show and used some of that to purchase the rights from MIT.
And then set to work improving it...

Yes but I think you mean he purchased the rights from DARTMOUTH COLLEGE where it was created and offered free, not MIT...the new owner himself may be an MIT person though.
