>1. No VRAM? Machine boots with VRAM returned.
>2. Are you sure you have a 200 board from a 9600? The board came out of a 9600. The numbers on the processors (after the heat-sinks were removed from both processors) were similar, but included '200' on the one from the 9600 while the one from the 7300 had '180' (there were other characters before and after). >3. Are you sure it is a cache card and it's in the cache slot? Yes. The cache and ROM SIMM slots are clearly labelled on the motherboard. The stick is out of a 7200/120; will only fit in the slot marked 'cache'. Machine now boots with cache removed. >If the PS works with the 7300/180 CPU, it will work with a 9600/200 CPU. Was everything >working before installing the new CPU? No. After the original 7300 power supply burnt out the unit was unused until an ATX power supply was converted to fit the 7300 (with help from peter H and other listers). The PS was installed a few days ago and we are now in the middle of the fault finding process. With VRAM in, machine works correctly with 180 MHz processor (except for display problem), so it appears that the PS is OK. With 200 Mhz processor inserted and CUDA chip reset there is no start up chime. It looks like the 200 MHz processor is dead, don't you think? The 180 processor should work in the 9600 motherboard, yes? New problem: display on 7300 has vertical stripes at regular intervals which render it unreadable. This is the same on two separate monitors. Display chip in the 7300 has had it, yes? Many thanks. -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
