The 7300 is working fine with its original processor - one VRAM stick was
not seated correctly in its slot (embarrassed grin), and the cache is OK
(cache for 7200 does not fit in 7300 cache slot).
With the 180 processor board in the 9600 (and 7300 power supply) the 9600
boots.
Sounds like the processor, BUT when changing a processor, you must always remember to CUDA. Sometimes it will work without hitting the button, BUT sometimes even a 10 second push is not enough. Having done hundreds of upgrades, I have had some that needed a 30 second push (while unplugged of course) to completely reset.
And sometimes it is a simple contact problem. Make sure the 9600 card contact points are clean and oxidation free.
