Charlie Reyes, among other comments, kindly offered this about Spin Doctor ...

adjust the audio stream's volume and left-right balance with
Toast's CD Spin Doctor before recording. Tape hiss can be filtered out and
the sound enhanced by bass/exciter/presence control panel after you
recording.

Charlie, as you noted I've got Toast Titanium; the package contains Spin Doctor. It didn't originally contain Peak LE. But, I got a good deal on Ebay and bought Peak LE separately. My question here is (if you know) the comparative merits of Spin Doctor versus PeaK LE for cleaning up sound.

I primarily want to reduce/eliminate room reverbration, bring up the volume at some points, sharpen the intelligibility of some speech that was recorded (I think) with too much bass, and eliminate distracting background noise (ie, an airconditioner) and miscellaneous coughs, etc.

And, in the same vein, I discovered somethings labeled "VST plugins". Never heard of them before; apparently they can operate upon sound to produce a variety of effects. I notice that I somehow have installed a "VST Plugins" folder containing a bunch of such things in the course of putting in Peak LE. I'm not sure how that happened; a Bias tech support guy assured me that VST stuff will only work with the *full* Peak and not its stripped down counterpart, the LE version. Anyway, I'm wondering whether any VSTs can do sound "cleaning" chores that Peak LE alone can't handle (or can't handle as well).

I fear that this thread is moving progressively out of standard PCI list territory. If you or others feel that, please email me off list. Thanks.

Dave
