First of all did you install the software from Apple that allows USB cards to work in 9.x.x and below? I believe the last version was 1.4.1 and it can be found in the download section of the Apple knowledge base. This allows USB cards to properly work in OS 9.x.x and below. If it's not installed you can forget using the card. Do a search in the knowledge base for USB card. It should come up.
