At Apple, if an OS changes the first number (I.E. OS 7.x, 8.x etc.) it is a
new OS and must be purchased. If it is an upgrade (I.E. 7.1, 7.5, etc.) it
is a free upgrade. (7.5.5 is an exception, being available for free download
as a complete OS.) I believe Apple has changed this procedure in OS 10,
considering 10.2 to be equal to a new OS vs 10.1 and thus not offering a
free upgrade.
