Wish I was... is still around, however it most likely does not work with the latest hardware/software. I havn't tried downloading it or looking at it's own page so i don't know if it really is there, however it is listed in macfixit's (macfixit.com) software library so go look there.> Hi,I'm interested in that software. Ben Ralston the creator of Os9Helper has created an Os9Helper CSM (control strip module) that allows you to change your Gestalt ID to two other settings from your default setting. It's on his website os9forever.com somewhere (if i remember correctly you have to go to the log and find the link there.....i believe that is hosted on ralstonweb.com but dont' hold me to that)Is there anyway to persuade an install disk for an imac to install software onto a 7200 ? It sees to only want to work with an imac. I sort of thought that an OS install disk would install on most anything as long as the hardwarecould cope in theory with that OS. In this case it's OS 0.5.

There used to be a shareware program called Wish I Was.. That would allow you to temporary change the Gestalt ID. That's the mac identfier for whichever machine. If you can change the ID to some form of iMac with the software, then you should be able to install it. The problem I ran into was actually finding the software. Any one know where it can be found on the WWW?
in any case that should work.
I highly doubt you want to hack the resource IDs to install it....if it's on a locked volume such as a CD though you couldn't change them anyway...
For minor software the interim solution is to use TomeViewer and just extract the files manually yourself.
