My 6500 (w/G3 400 CPU & maxed memory) will not let me upgrade beyond 9.1. What did you do to "spruce it up"?
Sorry for this tardy response Ginny. I've recently set this list on "digest" mode which means a day or two delay.
Anyway, yes a web site <www.OS9forever.com/> is the source of all good things. It's a package of goodies that contains everything you'll need. That's how I moved from OS 9.1 up to 9.2.2. It was simple. And provided a degree more stability than OS 9.1. In addition, some software is out there that (at least for their most recent version) specify that "OS 9.2.2 or higher" is required.
If you decide to use OS9forever, just carefully follow the simple instructions. You'll first download the "OS9 Helper" application. Next, click on the OS 9.2.1 button; OS 9.2.1 will appear on your desktop and just requires normal installation. (Just one tip: avoid the temptation to use "Custom Install", do the full, recommended thing.) Once OS 9.2.1 is installed, go into the OS 9 Helper window again and click the "OS 9.2.2" button; this one is a much shorter installation. Restart after it's installed and voila! I've had no problems with it.
