Well for starters look on E-Bay and check out closing amounts for PB1400 and even PB3400s.
And consider also the following:
Installation of the upgrade
Max memory and price (3400s can go to 144Mb and are it's not too expensive.)
Batteries, 5xx batteries are some of the most expensive, especially considering they are only NiMH.
Cost of PC Card cage in a 5xx (if of any use).
Video display
Processor speed
