Purely to argue -
Me,
First I think people need to stop viewing Microsoft (MS) as this huge evil out to kill you conglomerate. If they were so bad every PC user would still be on Windows 3.1 or better yet DOS. MS has been actively participating in many developments with Apple, I'll use bluetooth as one example. I think, and I am not sure, that MS actually owns part of Apple. Giving PC users an alternative to the Windows operating system (other than Unix or Linux) that actually provides them with applications that they can use and already are familiar with would be a huge advantage to PC users and Apple. I think Apple is on the verge of an extraordinary money make scheme.

Are You Crazy? Windows IS a scheme out to kill us! ;-) No they are not on the verge of an "extraordinary money make scheme." Where did you get that from?

Hmm, the sale of hardware and software...

What kind of reliable source is "the sale of hardware and software"??? Mac has only 10% or lower of the market and you are saying that Windows is not out to kill us? It almost did kill us back in '97 or so, around the time when Bill Gates himself desperately bought a large sum of Apple's stock just so Apple would stay in buisness!! Sure Apple will never go away, but if Microsoft keeps this up, Apple won't expand the slightest bit in the market....

As for drivers, Ms doesn't write all the drivers for Windows, the manufacturers of specific products do. When did you here about MS releasing a new ATI, Nvidia, or Creative driver? So Apple would have nothing to fear about it. As long as the manufacturers provided drivers everything would be fine. And I am sure the manufacturers would provide drivers.

I am no programmer and i don't know what would be easier to deal with as far as the two OS's go, but I love X and would much rather take advantage of my cheap PC hardware with a stable and well running OS. Maybe Apple would loose some money with hardware but they could always develop x86 systems and hardware for the x86 OS X.

It would take YEARS of 3rd party programmers to re-program all of their code to work with the x86 processors; it is a whole different architecture! Programming has to be done at 2 levels: the OS level and the hardware level.

if its so different and so difficult how come I can flash a Voodoo to work on Mac? Why can I flash an Adaptec 2940UW to work in it, what about the radeons? Why does my "PC" RAM work in it? Why does it have PCI slots? meh...

...Are video cards CPUs? Is the PCI bus a CPU? We are talking about the Mac OS running on x86 processors, not plain old video cards or PCI! And the reason "PC" RAM works on Macs is the very same reason hard drives do, too. There are MAJOR differences between Mac CPUS and Windoze. Firstly, Macs use what is called RISC architecture, Reduced Instruction Set Computer microprocessor. PeeCee's use CISC architecture, Complex Instruction Set Computer microprocessor. What this means is that each individual programmer would have to go back to the original code and add/delete millions of lines of code. Second, the x86 processors are designed along with the crummy IBM BIOS chip, the instructions for boot-up, all of it specifically designed for Microsoft Windows and...ahem... DOS, so even for Mac X to work with x86 processors would be more than a challenge. But this all is probably foreign to you since you are not a programmer...

Just to argue,

...Mac Addict BLAH BLAH BLAH!! these x86-Mac compatibility rumors have been around SINCE THE '80s, NONE OF THEM THE SLIGHTEST OF A BIT TRUE!!

Along with working on PC's I also work on Macs. By the way macs are PC's too! PC=Personal Computer.

...I know, it is just that most Windoze users believe that they are the only PC users; the term "PC" has started to be slang for "Windows".

Somehow it got changed to something other than that.
