The reason Apple would lose on releasing Mac OS X for Intel is simple. The vast majority of OS sales are OEM and Microsoft has that market locked up tight. Only a tiny percentage of sales are direct to consumers and only a tiny number of consumers ever upgrade their OS--they just buy a new machine. OS X would remain a small player and would be in the even worse position of convincing ISVs (independent software vendors) to write TWO Mac OS versions of their software.

Steve Jobs already went down this road with NeXTStep. He knows it doesn't work and isn't likely to try it again.

I like Macs don't get me wrong. Just because I'm a tech doesn't make me a bad person. Haha. Anyway, it is my personal belief that Apple would benefit from releasing their OS to the IBm compatible market. i can't really argue because I don't know a whole lot about business. i am only expressing what makes sense to me, it may not make sense to you.

What I don't understand is why it seems that no one on this list would like to see that happen? I understand everyone's reasoning behind why it shouldn't happen. i look at it this way. My dad who loves music would benefit because he wouldn't have to spend a load on an Apple machine because he could use a PC (much cheaper) with a good OS that isn't giving him the fear of loosing all his data at ay minute because of a virus or instability. (The loss of all data more likely resulting in a HD failure, but its just an example) Or some kid wants to edit movies or something but can't afford a nice new $2k G5.

So I am looking at the "consumer's" benefit not Apple's. Because without the consumer they aren't much of a company. Maybe I'm being to simple. Maybe I should shut-up so we can end the thread? Fun conversation though.
