How would taking the time to remove a battery and waiting a minute be easier
than simply pressing a button??

Simply because the battery may be easier to reach than fishing 
between the fins of the heat sink. And a lot easier than rounding up 
a small barbecue skewer to do it with.  Unless there is a Chinese 
restaurant near you that delivers. ;^D    Especially in an 8500.
