Hi Listers,

I finally got around to opening the lower drive bay of my 9600. Surprise no drive mount rails or other
bracket to secure the drive. Also it seems like it will be even harder to get the connector plugs on as my two big hands and the drive won't go into that small area.

I would appreciate any tips or ideas about how to shoehorn another drive into this machine. It seems so odd that this is the biggest PCI box yet has such a small area for drives.

TIA

Are you talking about the front drive bays or the bottom hard drive platter? If the front drive bays, I've found the easiest way is to unscrew the bezel shields of the other drives and slide the sleds forward a bit to make more room. Even so you still have to "feel" the connectors to the drives.

Try the Swap List or eBay for an 8600/9600 drive sled.

I'm referring to the bay that sits below the floppy, CD and Zip drives. My box doesn't have any likely looking areas below that. My machine may be missing something.

I think I understand about sliding the other drives forward to gain hand room.

Thanks,
