Hi Listers,
Deja Vu! I think I've read this post before...
Is anyone using an iOmega CD-RW USB drive with their PCI Mac successfully ? I bought mine several months ago.
It has been connected to 2 different machines. Attempted to run it under 8.6, 9 and 9.1. Also upgraded the Hotburn
utility and tried the Musicmatch software and Toast Lite too. Also with USB 1 and USB 2. I have tried three different disk types. Also have tried various speed settings. Four different USB cables have been tried too.
Iomega Predator 40x12x40 USB is currently attached to an iBook SE 466 but works fine with 9.1 and Toast 5.2 on a 8500/180 FrankenMac.
The machine works as it should when plugged into my friend's PC . On my Macs it has burned successfully four times and made about 25 coasters. iOmega support just regurgitates the manual. Monday night I tried 12 times and all seemed to be normal but every time I put the disk into the system drive it was reported as unreadable even though the
"initialize or eject" panel reported the file size accurately. And said it is in Mac format (?). Prerecorded disks are read normally by this drive.
First - stop posting this message. We heard you the first time.
Second - slow the speed down to 1x for burning. If it makes a good CD then most likely you have a good setup but something else is running taking up resources or you don't have enough RAM/Drive Space/Virtual Memory/etc.
Third - if it _doesn't_ burn at 1x then you have a serious underlying issue with your system. Try booting with a limited set of extensions - you'll probably have to use trial and error to get something where the burner works but most of everything else is turned off.
Fourth - If it _still_ doesn't work then return it and get something off of the iTunes compatibility list. I'm sure the LEM swap list or this list could give you ideas as to what to buy. Off hand the name I see a lot of is Yamaha.
I really need this to work. It's holding up my projects. I've been tempted to use the hammer treatment on it . But it has gone beyond that. I am determined to make it work if it ever will.
A good attitude but - we heard you the first time.
If you have somebody with a known-good PCI Mac or iBook then try it there if possible. No, don't send it to me for testing.
Failing all that - return it or kill it or try it under 10.x - I just don't have any other suggestions for you.
