Well every time I have both on, both screens appear to "flicker" as
if the frame rate has been cut in half. Is it bad to have 2
monitors so close together (ie. will it cause damage?)

Over a period of time it can cause damage. How much, what kind, and to which one depends on the quality of the EFI filtering the components have around them. The higher the quality of the monter the lest the long term effects will be.

If it is necessary that the monitors remain in that close proximity
of each other, get a piece of uncoated stiff copper mess screen,
solder a sold copper wire to it, slide it in between the monitors and
attach the wire to ground. The screen needs to be at least the same
size as the largest monitor looking at it from the side. This will
reduce a very large amount of EFI effect between the two monitors.

Of course to reduce the maximum amount of effect would be to make a
copper mess cover for both monitors and attach them to ground.
