I had several Belkin usb to serial adapters with drivers for Mac or Windows. They had one pc 9 pin connector and one Mac 8 pin connector. (only one connector could be used at a time but both were live). I never tried but guess you could use a Mac serial device on Windows. Most inkjet printers would be incompatible.
