If you know the type of file, drop it on the icon of an application
likely to be able to handle the file. If it is a graphic file, drop it on
Graphic Converter. If it is a text file (evidently a large one) drop it
on AppleWorks or some such. If the file has a three digit extension, try
an appropriate application for that extension.

Often, files sent through email gateways lose their "identity" and the
default is "text" so SimpleText is the first choice, though usually not
the best choice.
