OK, fine, a CD. You still can do it browser based as indicated previously. As for Googling and what keywords to use, the simplest approach is best. In this case you want to make a slide show, so "slide show" would be a crucial phrase. You want it on a computer so "computer" would be a good additional phrase, "free software" would be another. String these together. Try:
"slide show" computer free software for mac this suggests all sorts of relevent ideas and resources. But, yes, I do understand. It would be nice for folk to say "This is what I do and it works great". Maybe they have already. Myself, I am happy to show pics on web pages with titles and navigation buttons so the viewer controls the pace, and this is the most elementary way, simple HTML. You can add sound too. Javascript makes things more automatic and fancier... I am sure there is software to make things easy if you don't write HTML or javascript.
