Ethernet via a crossover cable had been working very well until this week. The machine with the problem is a 9600 running OS 9.1.
Somehow the Appletalk settings were changed. The connection which I had set at ethernet suddenly was changed to printer port. It does this every time the machine is booted.
When I try to save the "active" setting an error panel says there is a problem with the connection. A change to regular cables and a hub has not helped. The PRAM is zapped . The control panel reinstalled. Finder prefs trashed. The desktop rebuilt., and all steps in setup retraced.
The only software installed recently is a prefs file for a math education program. There is 2.2 Gig of free space. And 500 MB of Ram.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this problem ?
TIA
