But, If you need great scanning software for an "unsupported" scanner, check out www.hamrick.com ...
It saved me from having to buy another scanner ... I am using a UMAX 2400S, which to this day, I wish I had looked further ... especially since I also bought their "transparency" adapter (a couple of years ago) ...
Now if I just needed to scan X-Rays ...
The software works with a wide range of scanners on OS X ... no particular scanner drivers needed (as far as I can tell) ... it just goes and gets them ...
Happy Holidays,

Hey folks,
Just wanted to let you know in time for Christmas. . .the best scanner for OS X is the Canon Canoscan Lide30. It's completely portable (great for powerbook users like me) and gets it power from the USB cable. The best part is, it runs in OS X native!!
The best printer? The Epson C84! OS X native as well!
Now, of course, there are plenty of scanners and printers that perform better and faster etc., but I am calling these devices the "best" because of their compatability with OS X and the fact that they are the true meaning of "more bang for the buck". The printer, along with a mail in rebate, is only $79.95 and the scanner is the same price!!
