I used to use BeOS 24/7 for almost 2 years back in 99 (on my PC) and I LOVED
it. So a couple months ago I installed it on my 6500. It took me quite a
while to get it working and these are some of the things I learned :

1) BeOS doesn't like OS9 or OS9 doesn't like BeOS, one or the other.
While OS9 was installed, BeOS wouldn't get past its boot loader, it would
freeze at the BeOS logo. It didn't work properly until I installed OS8 and
then tried to boot BeOS from it.
2) When BeOS was finally installed and running, I was having network
problems. It would recognize the build-in NIC (neither would OS9), so I
installed a PCI NIC card from my G3. It seemed to work at first, but the
NIC wasn't holding the connection. It would establish a connection and
start the data transfer and then suddenly lose its connection after just a
few seconds. I'd restart networking everytime and it seemed to fix it, but
then it would keep losing its connection.

Other than that, I can't remember any other problems I had. BeOS was a
really great OS and could have been something really amazing. It was fun to
relive those halcyon days when it was my one and only OS (I didn't touch
windows for almost a full 2 years). If you can find a copy of BeOS 5, I
definitely recommend installing it and trying it out. Just a little heads
up though, the large majority of BeOS apps are compiled for x86. It is
becoming more and more difficult to find PPC BeOS apps, but they're out
there.

Good Luck!
James McLaren
