I just signed on with Bresnan.net and can't get over how fast cable is
compared with the old dialup I had.

 But!

I can't (they say) connect my home network.

I have a SMC Barricade router and a Friendlinet Hub, which has been
connected to a GV 56k modem. I have been running OSX 10.2.8 (Jag)

The Cable modem has an ethernet and a USB connection.

Right now (they set it up) the cable modem is connected to my ethernet port
on the 8500, precluding connection to my home network and preventing a
firewall .-(

I tried a connection from the cable modem to the router to the hub, but
even after after switching things around I still could not access the
internet on the other computers on the network.

What can I do to restore my network and firewall?
