make sure you unplug everything and then hook everything up ... turn on everything but the modem and make sure the router is completely up and then turn on the modem. Most cable companies have their modems set up to only accept 1 MAC address. by giving the modem your router MAC address, you should be good to go. (I had similar problems with my mother's network and cable modem and this fixed it)
