I think I can answer part 1 for you...

Okay, facing the "Interface Plate" (this is the metal plate with the various
ports on it, like LocalTalk, RS-232, SCSI, etc.) you'll see two metal screws
flanking it.  Loosen the screws and that plate should slide out, towards
you.  The motherboard is attached to that plate.
