If you store your images in your Pictures folder (yourusername/Pictures), which is not
obligatory but helps you find them, if you view the directory in column view, you'll
get a preview of any image you select right there in the Finder.
Same goes for Movies and Music (you can even play them in the Finder). Most text files
show up but are pretty small and unscrollable. Besides, you'll probably have a text
editor open so you can just double-click.
As for the general usablity of the old Scrapbook, there's probably a shareware app out
there that does it, check versiontracker, etc.
