Going from my brother's 8100 - that has 2 SCSI 
busses... the first one is inside and harder to 
get to, and the second is right at the top and 
you don't need to take anything out to see it. 
hope this helps. HDD on the first and his CDROM 
is on the second.

I seem to recall that an other ribbon cable was 
added to reach the
bottom of the case. Maybe this cable has a bad 
circuit or dirty
connector.

Also it's still not clear to me which SCSI bus it 
is on.  If it was
connected to the alternate bus which probably had 
no connector
attached in years (if ever) it may have a coating 
of tobacco smoke or
other crud which needs to be cleaned off for good 
contact.
