I would like to know who in the group is using, or has experience with, the
Orange Micro PC Windows cards. I just recently purchased one and have
installed it in my 9600. It is a 530 card, soon to have 128 Mb of memory,
running Windows NT release 4.0.
If I am to make real use of it I need to be able to get it to get out to
the Internet via an EtherNet connection (built in on the 9600). I need to
get the service pack upgrade for NT from Microsoft as well so I can install
Norton Anti-Virus, Norton Firewall and Norton Utilities.
Neal,
I have one of the Orange Micro PC cards in my 9600. I am not quite sure what your question is, or where you need help.
Have you installed the OrangePC software and set up your Windows drive partition? That is where you install your Windows NT (or DOS or Windows 98) software and configure the various hardware, such as your Ethernet connection.
Although they no longer make the PC cards, OrangeMicro still has the various manuals and program updates listed on their website. Just do a search for OrangePC or your particular card.
The OrangePC software is not compatible with any version of OSX or Classic. It works just fine when you boot up in 9.1. I don't know about 9.2.
One other, not so minor point, is the special video cable. Did you get the video loop-back cable with your card? If not, you will need to connect a second monitor to the OrangePC card. With the cable, you can use the same monitor for the Windows and the Mac environment.
