Interesting point about the HDs and it reminds me to upgrade to faster
drives (mine are all the slowish 7200 or thereabouts). But I am not
convinced about your advice on Ram I'm afraid. The About my computer is just
not reliable. It shows superficial data. You need lots because Ram does not
really become available for sure when quitting apps. Often it remains tied
up (yes, a fault in Mac OS - at least in 9.04 back). I say, view "Largest
Unused Block with suspicion. It is very cheap, Ram and it is a false
economy to do with less (don't go to a couple of bad movies and get some Ram
instead)...

BTW, does 9.2.2 have better memory management?

Yes, 9.0 had a kernel memory leak (sometimes failed to slide freed blocks) and one in Finder (didn't always release window memory). They were fixed in 9.2. Note, however, that because there are no memory protections in the classic Mac OS, badly behaved applications were actually the real problem. Exploder is one of the worst offenders.

An extra 100 MB is more than ample. If you have more than that, you should have taken your bf/gf out for dinner more.
