In case this helps anyone... A couple of months back I had a SCSI HD not mounting on cold boot but doing so on restart. A good suggestion was made on this list that there was a spin-up prob and to turn on memory-check on startup to give the poor thing time. This worked. But the thing was on its way out and, last week, it packed it in (slight scraping sounds, just would not mount, even in other machines). I had backed up the disk a week earlier but still a nuisance ...
I am looking into getting some faster HDs for my 7300 and/or my 7600 - I am wanting to put the 7K jobs into the 'just for backup' class. Any particular probs with 10K or 15K speed ones for a 7600 with a Powerlogic G3/4 360MHz or a 7300 with an XLR-8 333MHz G3 upgrade CPU? Lots of ram in each machine. How possible and nice would a firewire HD be on a PCI card on a PCI Mac (7300,7600 etc)? Anyone done this? Pardon me, I forget.
