Some quick thoughts.

Did you swap the HD into the 6300 and what happens?

Check the pins on the connector. I had one pin bent on my 9500 and it caused
intermittent mount problems, you may have a similar problem.

Try renaming your System Folder and dragging a bootable System Folder off
one of your bootable CDs and see how that works.

Sounds like a hardware problem. Either the Hard Drive or possibly the Cache
Simm. The L2 cache on my PB 1400's G3 card died and the machine slowed to
almost glacial speeds. Try removing and reinstalling the ram and cache and
see if it clears up.
