On that basis most mailing lists will get tagged as spam periodically. A digest in particular is likely to get tagged as it has so many addresses, subjects and so on that is' likely to add up to enough criteria to trigger the filter.

The ISP or the individual ought to be able to white list certain source addresses. I can do that with my ISP, either specific addresses or using wildcards (ie [EMAIL PROTECTED]).

Yes, exactly what I was thinking, a white list as a cross-reference or checks and balance system is what spamcop should use for known good sources. Instead, spamcop will take complaints from clueless people or make assumptions about content and blacklist a server that has been and still should be in good standing. The way it works apparently, is that any ISP utilizing spamcop (I can't speak to other services) takes the blacklist subscription as is without control over who or what is on it.

Having said that, when I asked my ISP rep for specifics on why pci-powermacs was flagged he said,

" When I looked up the IP on the spamcop list the
very first email it showed me was an insurance spam.
... I looked at the captured email our filters blocked
and it was commercial products being advertized in the posted emails in the
digest version of the list server that triggered our spam filter. I don't
remember which products because I've looked at about a billion spams since
then but it was one I remember building a specific filter for because it was
being spamvertized a couple weeks ago.

ISP's have come to the conclusion that you just can't make everyone happy
with spam filtering, so that's why many times it's just a choice of "take
our filters or filter it yourself."

Just to give you some idea, during the time I've been emailing back and
forth with you this past hour I've had three people complain that we aren't
filtering enough of the spam."

So I ask the list members, especially those on unfiltered accounts, have you ever seen ads as described above within the Maclaunch list mail received?
