I've got a PowerMac 9600 and it appears the ethernet card is no longer working, I can't connect to the internet via my cable modem and Comcast. (Tech support calls w/ Comcast have resulted in good connection results on their end)

Can I just buy a new one and stick it in one of my many PCI expansion slots?

Yes, you can, but before you dive into the learning curve of installing internal hardware and driver compatibility, lets make sure the problem is your ethernet interface and not something else...

Please elaborate a bit. What operating system & version are you running, classic or X? What exactly do you mean by "calls w/ Comcast have resulted in good connection results on their end"? Does your modem synchronize to the cable system (solid green lights)? Did Comcast tell you they could ping your modem? Did they tell you they could ping your Mac? Do you have any sort of NAT Router or other firewall running?
