Never seen this problem. But tis good advice, for switching from/to any email client! *Backup* all your mails, then install Eudora, do the imports, get things working smoothly, THEN dump Outcrook. Personally, I'd do another backup before dumping OE.
Indeed. Backing up only takes a few moments. Cheap insurance like this is priceless.
The process of compacting a mailbox can take only a few seconds if the mailbox is small, or minutes if it's gigantic.
I've one mailing list that can easily generate 4-5 MB a month. The first of every month, I just trash the previous months mail. It then compacts itself.
...Have you'all upgraded to Eudora 6.1 yet? I did the other day, and WOW. It's a LOT faster than Eudora 5 or even 6.0 was! Great to see such an improvement in an app that runs in OS 9 on my ancient PM 7300!
Not yet, I'm still at 8.6. I've got a 9.1 install CD, and a friend of mine with a fast connection at work is going to get me the diverse installers for 9.2.1 and 9.2.2. Once I've upgraded the OS (Thank you, OS 9 Helper!), I'm looking to do the same with Eudora and a few other applications, most notably the Palm Desktop and HotSync software for the Mac. If I can use the other USB port on my 5500/225 for the Palm cradle, I can do online synching for email and web content, as well as taking advantage of the enhanced printing features of the Palm Desktop.
As an aside, the Palm Desktop for the Mac is a thing of beauty and power. Even if you don't have a Palm, it's an amazingly useful application for managing addresses and printing mailing labels and envelopes. And it's a free download from the Palm website, too.
