Yep, that can be a simple problem. After checking the CPU board contacts are in all the way and evenly, If you make sure the opposite edge of the board goes into the groove in the fan assembly it will probably be seated correctly.

As an 8500 & 9500 owner I can say only do this *after* you have checked the CPU *two or three times* and tried booting. There's just too much chance that you can screw something else up during the process of disconnecting everything and removing the mother board, then reconnecting on these @#$%ing cases!


Ideally us owners of these machines should have the various board connector extension cables so you can leave the board out laying on it's protected side and *carefully* boot to troubleshoot RAM. Of course, making sure the CPU and video and other PCI cards are properly seated might be even more difficult but it's a trade-off I'd gladly accept over taking it completely apart and then back together every @#$%ing time.

Anyone got the spare parts cables/connectors with correct sexes cheap? (power supply,SCSI, etc)
