48 mb of ram might be too little to be able to use toast and burn a cd. Please anyone prove me wrong.
I don't know about later versions, but Toast 3.5.7 is happy with only 5.1 MB RAM, and that's with double-buffering enabled.
CD Writers are VERY slow. You don't need big buffers to keep them burning...
