It is not the ID that determines termination, it is the physical connection to the ribbon.

Fellow Listers,
Just a quick question regarding multiple SCSI drives.. I added a second
drive (2.1g Seagate Barracuda) From my dead 8600/300. But it doesn't show up
on the desktop or even in Apple System Profiler..
I really don't have much experience with all things SCSI.. So any ideas?
Assuming your present drive is set at ID = 0 set the added drive at ID = 1 or 2. That way you will not have to move the termination.

Yes Ron of course. But had you followed the implied thought, in this case ID setting does determin the " correctness " of the termination . Because if a stock Apple CD drive is there it is most probably at the standard factory setting of ID = 3 . So therefore I suggested open available ID numbers which would avoid the need to move termination. I stated it briefly without complicating info. I assumed the lister knew how to set jumpers. But the setting of termination is often unknown to many. Therefore I gave just enough info to get the job done.
