Hello there@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
I have a 7600 with a Sonnet G3 400 card and I am wondering if its the problem
I have turned off virtual memory and only have 2 128 mb sticks of ram in and run OS 9.2.2 .
In the dialogue process ie opening the apple menu the system sometimes freezes, generally when opening something OR if i leave the unit for over 5 minutes it has invariably gone wonky resulting in a hang and needs a power bar reboot it wont reboot from the button on the front of the boxIve done the disk warrior thing the PRAM thing but its certainly a constant problem with me
I have seen the issue of a mac freezing if left alone for awhile but cannot remember the solution or even if there was one
any wisdom on this ?
t
I have no experience with 9.2. However in the past have had similar problems with 8.6 and 9.0.
Was the RAM added recently.? How old is the problem. Can you associate it with any config changes ?
Try resetting the CUDA button . Are the DIMMs matched for speed ? slots and edges clean . Dimm seated firmly? ( Thermal cycles can cause them to losen. Tobacco smoke can infiltrate slots and cause continuity problems also.
Is auto sleep enabled ? How long is the delay ? 5 minutes ?
A last resort is a fresh reinstall of the OS. I have done it several times as a custom install without losing data. A clean install is often too much to ask for if backup is a problem.
Good luck. I think with some persistence you will find a solution rather soon.
