The OS is one that I purchased from ebay and according to the cdrom were originally for a ibook

I don't think you can do that. For many years Apple has shipped its machines with install-CDs that work only with the Mac it came with. Probably to stop people from sharing their OSs with friends...


To get install-CDs that work for any Mac, you have to buy it. So I would be very surprised if the CDs from an iBook would work in your totally different machine.

the 9.1 install for ibook works for PM 7xxx - just choose universal install. (if I remember ok, but it works)
