Hi all,
like I said before, I have been tampering with the six PCI slots of my PM9600 for some time - I still am, actually.
I found some information about these PCI slots, and I'd like to understand better some aspects.
I know that 9600's (and 9500's) PCI slots are managed by two Bandit chips: one manages 3 stlots (A1, B1, C1) and one the other three (D2, E2, F2). I read that controller cards (like FireWire, SCSI or IDE cards) have to be inserted in the topmost slots (A1, B1, C1) for functioning properly. I read also that particularly demanding cards, like video or audio cards, should preferably be put in those topmost slots too.
BUT...
I read also that the best performing slots are A1 and D2, and that controller cards etc. should be inserted there.
So, which is the truth?
I'm particularly interested in the subject because I'm still having some problems with the audio cards I'm using with the 9600. These cards are 3 audio cards linked together (actually they are two audio cards - a Yamaha DS2416 and a WS1000XG - plus another I/O card - a Yamaha AX16-AT). I tried either to put them in the 3 topmost slots, and to put the SW1000XG in the A1 slot and the DS2416 in the D2 slot - but some problems remains in both configurations (the same problems: freezes, especially if I stream a lot of data through the MIDI serial interface - an Opcode Translator Pro).
My impression is that these 3 cards, being closely linked together (both the SW1000XG and the AX16-AT are connected with cables to the DS2416), should communicate to each other within one Bandit chip, possibly in the topmost slots triplet - but I'm not sure of that, of course.
I'd be very grateful if somebody gave further information - any information - about these 6 slots (technical specs, hints, suggestions... anything).
Thanks in advance,
