I rescued a performa 6400/180 sitting out by the curb for the garbageman,
brought it home and fired it up. Got a nice chime out of it, then the
blinking question mark indicating it couldn't find the system folder. I put
a restore/disk first aid disk from my performa 580CD in the cd-rom to use
for a startup disc, but of course it wouldn't work. It did seem to read the
cd though, as it gave me a message about how that cd won't work in the
6400.

I then opened the machine up and discovered that the HD had been removed.

My question is: Is there an easy/inexpensive way to verify that the rest of
this machine, primarily the motherboard and components are good, before I
go to the bother and expense of putting in another hard drive? Or do I just
have to take my chances?
Thanks
Gary
