Right! The main reason is that the maximum RAM the 4400 (or the StarMax 3000!) can take is only 160 MB. >So a 2nd hand g3 card for this tanzenia, where do prices started? I was offered one >and would get a Starmax 3000/200 for free with it but i only need the card. Apparently the only differences between the StarMax 3000/200 and the Mac 4400/200 are in the number of PCI slots and the video out, which also vary among models of the same brand. Incidentally, you could combine RAM from the StarMax and the 4400 to get up to 160 MB of RAM in which ever machine you chose, providing there are 2 64MB DIMMs available between them. If all they have are 32MB DIMMs, you couldn't get above 96 MB on either machine! >And would OSX run on 4400/200 with G3 card? I can't say anything with certainty about 10.1, but I'm absolutely sure you couldn't run 10.2 (Jaguar) or 10.3 (Panther) on a machine with 160 MB of RAM! >Whats the bottom price for such a card anno 2004? Obviously, the bottom price is $0.00, unless someone pays you for taking it off their hands. Seriously, though, how much is it worth to you to have even a fast machine with only 160 MB of RAM? Anyway, you should probably get onto the StarMax mailing list, and/or check their archive.
